How does it work?
Power down your motherboard, insert the card into the slot you want to
use either ISA or PCI.
Power up the PC. The first thing to look at is the LEDS across the TOP.
If you have VOLTAGE from your power supply, all 12V and 5V LEDs should be LIT
UP, except -5VOLTS if your card is plugged into PCI. If your card is plugged
into the ISA slot, then all LEDs should be LIT UP.
If you have a CLK LED on, then your motherboard clock gen is running ok.
Use the manual to lookup problem CODES! It's that simple!
LED Meanings:
CLK
Bus clock
Lights when the power is applied to the empty board (even without CPU ) , or
else there is no message.
BIOS
Base input/output read
LED turns on and off when the board is powered on, as CPU is reading the BIOS.
IRDY
Manager is ready
LED turns on and off when there is a message from the manager.
OSC
Oscillation
Lights when the board is powered on. If not, the crystal oscillation circuit
is broken, and has no OSC message.
FRAME
Frame periods
Lights all the time. Turns on and off only when there is a circular frame message.
RST
Reset
Lights only for half-second when you slide the power switch or the reset switch.
If it is lit all the time, check the following: make sure that the reset pin
is plugged properly, or the reset circuit is broken.
SYS
Bus pulse
If the LED blinks, the main board bus is running. If the bus is not running,
the LED is off.
Data
Data Transfer
This signal shows that a device has been selected for data transfer. If no blink,
the bus controller could be faulty.
IOW
I/O write Light when the BIOS writes to device and provides the same troubleshooting
clues as the I/O READ.
12V
Power
Lights once the board is powered on,Otherwise, short circuit occurs on motherboard,
or voltage is not 12V.
-12V
Power
The same as"12V"
5V
Power
The same as "12V"
-5V
Power
The same as "12V" (-5V is output only for ISA slot.)
Operations:
This card is use to troubleshoot your motherboard problems. Sometimes
your computer will not boot. Use this diagnostic card to see the POST (power
on self test) codes that the BIOS commands the motherboard to perform. Each
motherboard has a BIOS which the device that initializes all hardware components
on the motherboard such as CPU, Memory, Video card. During the boot up sequence,
your BIOS will also generate what is called POST80 codes. Each code can be referenced
in a manual supplied to help determines the problem with the motherboard.
In most cases, where the LAST POST CODE is displayed on the POST card is generally
the problem area. For example: If you have an Award Bios on your motherboard,
and you install this card. Turn on the power to your computer. Your computer
stops booting, but the POST CARD shows a code of "01". This could mean you have
a faulty CPU on your motherboard because the BIOS told the CPU to start, but
the CPU did not respond. If a piece of hardware does not respond during a boot
sequence, then the motherboard will not finish POSTing.
